Patrick Stump is best-known as the main creative force behind ’00s pop-punk standard-bearers Fall Out Boy, but the R&B and hip-hop influences that have long been part of his music come to the foreground on his upcoming album, Soul Punk. “This City” is the record’s first single, and Stump tells the A.V. Club that the song's poppy slickness is representative of the album. “I'm kind of pop but a little left of center,” Stump said. “It sounds kind of like it makes sense on the radio but at the same time doesn't at all. It's very me.”

“This City” prominently features fellow Chicagoan Lupe Fiasco, and Stump said his relationship with the rapper goes back several years. “Before Food & Liquor came out he and I were talking about working on something together. I ended up producing the song ‘Little Weapon,’ for his The Cool record,” he said. “I actually wrote the hook for ‘This City’ with him in mind before I decided to use it for Soul Punk, so when the label asked me if I'd be interested in doing a remix with an MC he was the only real way I'd say yes.”

You're in for a special treat tonight, if not a world blog exclusive!!

I say exclusive because I've had to rip these covers off the radio and try and edit them myself with software I've never used before, that's how good they are, that's how much you need to hear these, that's how much I think you deserve them...

Kate Nash - Let's hear it for the boys (Deniece Williams Cover)

That's right, Kate Nash. Who would have guessed she's ever make it onto this blog? Certainly not me, but this shut me up. If you've ever seen Peter Kay's series 'Max and Paddy' you'll appreciate the revival of this classic even more! This is a guilty listen, I'd never let anyone over hear me thumping this one out at traffic lights but when I get it home, it's all about the 80's campness. Loving this one.

Plan B - Runaway (Kanye West Cover)

As soon as I heard this I thought, Vizzle wouldn't mind a bit of it! Both of these covers were recorded by Triple J Radio on their 'Like A Version' feature (much like the 'Live Lounge' but with a far better name). There's been some huge covers on there, if these are to your liking let me know by liking them back :) Then I will pull all the stops out and make sure you get this treatment on the regular.

Yeasayer - Crazy (Seal Cover)

As I've turned today's feature into a display of the finest covers I can find it's only right that this track gets a download. It's a beauty, it sounds like what I'd imagine Mumford & Sons to sound like when they're happy. Not that Yeasayer need an intro, and we all love Seal, fact. You'll like this one, I know you will. Tree Boy xoxoxoxox

I am going to keep this short because I have posted about Plan B before, but again, I want to make this single aware to the people of Australia (Tree Boy).

This is the fifth single that Plan B has released from the concept album 'The Defamation Of Strickland Banks'. Love Goes Down is the first song on the album, and from watching the video it portrays his failing relationship with his girlfriend and how Strickland gets arrested. So I can only assume that it is done as a flashback from prison. If not, then I'm not sure how it fits chronologically with the story... so any suggestions or answers are welcomed with open arms!

But at the end of the day, this is one of my favourite albums of the year, each song is fantastic and 'Love Goes Down' is no different! I genuinely think that the album could be made into a musical, just my opinion!

Anyways you can watch the video below and tell us what you think! Enjoy – Vizzler.

Think Marina Diamandis, think Lykke Li, think Sheryl Crow, think again. Although Alex Winston has been compared to all three of these songstresses there’s something about this quirky brunette from Detroit’s melodic vocals that sets her apart from the rest.

When it comes to song writing Alex has all bases covered – she plays the guitar, writes her own lyrics and sings them too, leaving just enough room for her backing singers who join her when performing live. She says she’s like Morticia Addams meets Blossom meets Cher in Mermaid (take that as you will) and is classically trained as an opera singer, however her sound on tracks such as “Medicine” would have you believing otherwise.

Alex has spent the past year working on her debut album with fellow HeavyRoc Records artists and producers The Knocks (coming to a post near you on iknowasong!) and in the meantime has produced the Choice Notes EP, a collection of bouncy, feel good tracks that will put a smile on your face no matter what mood you’re in. Even her haunting covers of more heartfelt tunes such as Jack Penate’s “Pull My Heart Away” (featured on The Basement Covers EP, which you can download for free here) make for such easy listening you’ll be making room for her on your Most Played list in no time!

Alex played her debut UK show this Monday at The Social, in London. I’ve been on a bit of a gig hiatus for the past few months and this was a perfect welcome back to the music scene for me. Tracks such as “I Don’t Care About Anything” captivated the crowd from the off, with “Choice Notes” and “Medicine” picking up the pace leaving everyone wanting more. Hopefully, our new fave won’t leave it too long until she hits this side of the pond again!

You can order the Choice Notes 7" EP on Heavyroc here

I thought I would share this with the public if they are not yet aware that Plan B has released 'The Recluse' as the fourth single from the simply amazing album 'The defamation of Strickland Banks'. Once again this is also aimed at Tree Boy, just in case Plan B isn't at the forefront of things in Australia... and if he is not then I think its our duty to make that happen!

I believe everyone who has listened to the album will agree that it is incredible, and the imagination it must take to write a concept album shows that Plan B is a multi-talented musician. For anybody who is unaware, the album follows the rise and most noticably the fall of the fictional character 'Strickland Banks'. The Recluse itself explains the hard times Strickland is facing in jail, and the best way to avoid his enemies is to simply lock himself away from everyone.

The album differs from previous works that you may have associated Plan B with, he opts to sing, with a unique soulful voice. However, The Recluse, merges both his new soulful voice with his more noticable style of rap. The album follows a story, as it is a concept album, so therefore the videos play out parts of the story too. Watching them in order is obviously advised, but for those who have seen the previous videos, here is the fourth installment. Enjoy. - Vizzler.
