Let’s start by being completely honest, there are very few better British bands at the moment than Enter Shikari. Some people may disagree with me and I guess my view is fairly biased due to the fact that listening to them is one of my favourite pastimes. However you cannot deny their success as they are currently on a tour of Canada and the US. So they are clearly doing something right, and after being signed up with Warner Music it has made the band even bigger both in the UK and the rest of the world.  It simply comes down to the fact that they have paved the way for a brand new genre of music, and that is a pretty huge thing to have done!

For me when I first heard ‘Sorry You’re Not A Winner’ in 2006 it basically changed my life (and this is in no way an exaggeration), it took me from listening to the standard ‘indie’ of the time that I was in to and which was the popular music. Bands such as Arctic Monkeys, Hard-Fi etc etc, and showed me something completely new. Which cemented in my head that this more hardcore music was exciting and different, which opened my world to many new bands as well. I think there are a lot of people who would agree with me on that one.

The other great thing with Enter Shikari is that with the latest album ‘Common Dreads’ and the EP ‘Tribalism’ they have moved there music with the times. As dance/electro/dub step has become more prominent they have upped that to a degree in their music, without losing the rock and aggression that are synonymous with the band.

In terms of this new track ‘Destabilise’ it has the standard catchy chorus which comes with all of Enter Shikari’s biggest anthems and is one that you can play over and over. Their music is about filling the fans with passion, and lyrically seems very politically focused in recent times. This song keeps a lot of the electronic sounds that became more prominent in the second album, but it also has a really heavy section towards the end that for me alludes back to the aggression of the first album. Personally I’m a huge fan of this song, and can’t wait for more of the same.

They are also an incredible live act, I first saw them on the special edition DVD that came with the first album ‘Take To The Skies’ and I was amazed by their energy on stage and the atmosphere in the crowd looked intense! I first actually witnessed them live physically at Reading Festival in 2007, where I can proudly say I had my first ‘human pyramid’ thrust upon me. I was also lucky enough to see the band at Astoria 2 in London, with a crowd of about 800 people, which was honestly the most incredible gig, and yes I did at one point get hold of the microphone and sing into it as Rou was… Ok this has now just turned into me devoting my love for the band!

Anyways, if anyone is lucky enough to be seeing 30 Seconds to Mars later this month, you will be pleased to know, if you don’t already that the support is Enter Shikari. So I will have a review up of that gig, and it is one I am thoroughly looking forward to!

Listen to their new track below ‘Destablise’ and it is also available to download on iTunes as of yesterday! – Vizzler.
