After rising to fame off the back of an Ellie Goulding remix, you'd be right to expect big things from Lincoln's own James Jacob and he delivers with this one; a subtle mature creeper for dubstep fans with a refined palate.

Friendly Fires - Blue Cassette (Tiga Remix)
Some of the remixers we're incuding today are bigger than the original artist! And here's no exception with Tiga delivering his brand of gritty acid-eque techno that I struggle to define with words. Give this a listen (maybe a few listens if you're not yet a Tiga true-blood) and all will become clear. This original track was the highlight of FF's 'Pala' album for me and so I hoped this remix wouldn't disappoint - it doesn't.

Scroobius Pip - The Struggle (Doctor P Remix)
It's no secret that we have a bit of a man crush on old Scroobius here at iknowasong.com, and as much as it pained us to hear that he's taking a hiatus from Dan le Sac we continue to support everything that he does. Even so, we are partial to a remix of his original works, especially where Circus Records' head honcho is involved. Skream - Anticipate (Netsky Remix)
I'd go as far to say that these two artists were the hottest names in the dubstep and D 'n' B genres respectively. Ignoring the cliche, both of these artists continue to evade labelling, doing different things with every release yet maintaining a rare quality. This is jump up D 'n' B for you all, a fitting note on which to end this post on considering you should already be grinning from ear to ear having downloaded all of these tracks! Enjoy. No kidding, I literally cannot find out ANYTHING about this track. 'Zodiac' doesn't have a facebook, myspace, the youtube video links have no leads and this track has been uploaded to soundcloud by someone who isn't Zodiac!?

Rebecca Ferguson - Nothing's Real But Love (Logistics Remix)

Ok - so apparently the original track was a UK X-factor single? So it'll come as no surprise to you that I've not heard the original. I don't need to hear it to know that I don't want to hear it - all I know is you need to hear this. 
Logistics is a Cambridge (UK) based producer where he runs his club night with older brother Nu:Tone; both of whom are signed to the massive 'Hospital Records'...

Camo & Krooked ft. Ayah Marah - Cross the Line (Metrik Remix)

When I see the names 'Camo & Krooked' I go mental, I can't download the track fast enough and I trust this tune explains why. It opens as if it were 'end credits' by Chase & Status before revealing itself as an absolute main room anthem!

Major Lazer - Hold the Line (Cyantific & Wilkinson Remix)

So Diplo and Switch getting together to form Major Lazer was a dream come true for most of us, not to mention every track on the album 'guns don't kill people... lazers do' - and this remix is icing on the cake. With half of the remix duo getting signed to 'Hospital' following a tip-off from High Contrast and the other half signed to Andy C's 'Ram Records' you know there's going to quality in abundance here - you won't be disappointed.  

Tantrum Desire - Reach

This was a big pick up by the boys at the daftwho.com blog, fair play. Yet another London outfit getting plays from all the big names; Bailey, Grooverider etc. If you like this track hunt down a copy of their EP 'foreplay' released back in July 2011. Enjoy. Tree Boy xoxoxo

Dr. Ozi - An Apple A Day 
You won't quite believe this first time round - imagine Noisia and Prodigy had a baby that was brought up by Goldie and Doctor P, kidnapped by Borgore and abandoned in the woods to be raised by feral wildlife - that baby would be called Dr. Ozi. Here they are, those filthy Canadian bastards Nix Chohan and Christian Boyd, somehow, remaining unsigned;

And because I guarantee you that you'll want to hear more Dr. Ozi  following that first instalment, here's a bit more. And if you're extra-specially hooked then head here to the boy's soundcloud where you can hear them do nasty horrible things to Ke$ha and Chris Brown. Seriously, at about 1.30mins, they really do smash Ke$ha about!

Gogol Bordello - Immidraniada (Bassnectar Remix)
From newcomer's to stalwarts here we've got Bassnectar, with his 8th album 'Divergent Spectrum' about to drop on August 2nd right here at bassnectar.net. Many will have honed in on Bassnectar following his high profile remixes for the likes of Ellie Goulding, he takes a more Circus Records-esque approach to this, dropping off an almost hardcore track with a lovely sounding name! You can preview the whole new album here and catch him on tour in the UK, Canada and the U.S. in the next few weeks!

Blockhe4d - Gutter Queen
Drum 'n' Bass fans you're being spoilt! Here's one from a brand new London based collab between US Born Jonas "Uman" and former Bad Company(!) member 'Vegas'. As soon as I heard Bad Company had something to do with this I got very excited, and I was right to - already releasing on Hospital Records, we can expect to hear a lot more of this d 'n' b / dubstep / electro sound that Blockhe4d promises to bring us.

Does it Offend you, Yeah? - Wondering (Dirtyphonics Remix)
Here's two things you don't hear every day 1) Very good dubstep 2) French dubstep... And those two things to me, up until 24 hours ago were very separate things. Suffice to say, Dirtyphonics have changed all of that with what is, quite frankly, carnage in your ears... Doing the festival route all round Europe, these guys are even remixing for Skrillex! I can put up feature after feature for you but we're a close knit band of people and if I know any of you at all I know you want to hear what's doing the rounds for iknowasong.com at the minute. I might have some bad news for you though...

This week I've gone a bit weird, I'm in a transition. I'm getting all deep, stripping back to the bare essentials as it were, finding pleasure in the simple things, no frills music. These tracks have overtaken my headphones, I know they won't be everyone's (if anyone's) cup of tea but if you're a fan of the likes of massive attack, high contrast, hot chip, mount kimbie etc. then you may get on with at least one of these tracks... download + listen = enjoy.

Alunageorge - Analyser

Simple, effective, addictive. The Guardian liken these guys to Sweet Female attitude and other publications are calling alunageorge the future of pop. I could live with that - get more free MP3's from their website.

Aether - Orfeu Negro

Aether are my band of the hour, a Boston outfit remixing everyone from Lykke Li to James Brown. A sombre ed banger record feel to this.

This should be the American Beauty soundtrack. Massive attack fans will enjoy this lots.

Cassius - I <3 u so (Zdar's skreamix)

Zdar touching up Skream's old skool drum n bass take on the house hero cassius' new track. This is pure Moby to start off with then we get ravey. love it.

First Rate People - Funny Games

I haven't been lucky with the indie scene lately, not a lot of gems surfacing, but this track gives me hope that they are out there. This is more indie electronica but I think we can all appreciate the catchiness of these lyrics.

Gavintoo - Over the Rainbow (remix) 

Yes. As in Wizard of Oz. I don't know what you'd call this - 'classical house' maybe? This is the track I'm waking up to every day lately, as soon as those all to familiar piano keys drop you'll all be doing your Dorothy impressions I guarantee...

Clare Maguire - The Last Dance (Chase and Status Remix)

This is huge news, a chase and status track that isn't shit. In fact, it's the exact opposite. Maybe they've had enough of copying pendulum so now they're copying magnetic man instead. Clever work Chase & Status, no one will ever notice. Love you loads, mashed. Tree Boy xoxox

I'm excited... I've been away from this for far too long, and the only positive we can take from that is that my itunes library is about to piss its pants. So here's some filth to set the tone for this year. P.S. I've now managed to get super fast broadband in the technological blackspot of Australia (that's the reason I went quiet for a month, 'cos I was chucking a man period over the upload speeds) but now it's all good, I promise you lot more of this.

Crystal Clear & Zen - Heavy - And a bit of D 'n' B to finish it off, never say I don't spoil you.

If there were such a thing as 'reigning world champions of electronic dance music' you wouldn't be surprised to see the Swedish House Mafia sporting the belt. But the three Swedes are hardly new to the scene; Angello, Ingrosso and Axwell are house music veterans in a new guise and they've gone through their own hell to get here. 

In a recent interview childhood friends Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso recall that they weren't received well on the club scene back in the late 90's, struggling for a gig they were always hassling people to let them play - 'we begged for them to let us play, even for free'. Things hadn't improved by 2000 when after meeting a member of the Artful Dodger(!) they moved to Southampton, UK to try and further their careers. Unfortunately things didn't work out and the guys who were living on a diet of 'potatoes and fish sticks' had exhausted all their resources pressing their own promo's. Axwell recalls similar moments too but he managed to secure the first glimmer of hope back in 2004 with 'feel the vibe' - a global club hit. At the same time Angello was suceeding on the underground scene, most notably with his remix of 'sweet dreams' by Eurythmics. 

Now we can begin to understand the drive that these guys have, they deserve to be where they are, although their name might be new their faces certainly aren't. After debuting their own night in Ibiza back in 2009 (Dark Forest at Pacha) they met with more success, these guys used to drive around the island putting their own posters up and promoting their own events! This year; 'Masquerade Motel' ran by the Swedes was by all accounts one of the Ibiza seasons top nights, and 2010 has also contained more landmarks for the mafia (read: producing a certain instrumental called 'one') which started by tearing apart the Miami Winter Music Conference and now gets air time wherever I seem to go! The Mafia's follow up (vs. Tinie Tempah) 'Miami 2 Ibiza' is going down much the same route and seeing as you've all probably heard these tracks more than a few times by now I thought I'd collect up some of the best remixes I've heard, who knows, somehow you might be able to like these songs EVEN MORE!
 
Expect to hear a lot more from these Swede's in the future, as soon as they have time we can expect an album and they've been working on tracks with the likes of Kylie Minogue. A one hour documentary on the guys is being filmed right now and they have an upcoming mix cd 'until one' coming out very soon if it's not already available where you are. The Mafia have stated that they'd like to replicate David Guetta's success ('by producing a track like ' I gotta Feeling' - I don't know how this qualifies as 'success' but there we are) Who am I to disagree? After what these guys have been through over the last decade, and bearing in mind the quality of the tracks they're putting out - I can't begrudge them a little fortune! Enjoy their remixes!    

Pub Quiz Ammo - There used to be four members of SHM, a one 'Eric Prydz' made up the final member but as he decided to move to London as opposed to remianing in Sweden he was banished from the Mafia. You'll still find heaps of Pryda tracks in the SHM sets however, it's all amicable!

'Show Me One' (Laidback Luke Bootleg) - Ok, it's a bootleg as opposed to a remix but I guarantee you'll be like 'OH NO HE DIDN'T!' when this beast drops. I don't know where house music would be without 'Show me Love' by Robin S! 

'One' (Congorock remix) - Really hard to categorise this one in any particular genre, it retains some of the original's house elements but the drop takes it down a more chemical road - it still has has 'club banger' written all over it, but it's darker, harder (faster, stronger, why not)  

'One' (Proximas Dub) - Don't tell me you weren't expecting a dubstep remix! Here it is, and it is good! Subwoofers are necessary to feel the full weight of the track, it's a subtle little dubstep gem this one.

'One' (Foals Cover) - Yes, Foals as in the immense indie band Foals! UK peeps might already be on this one, it sounds like a (very good) radio 1 live lounge track, a re-imagining of the song with a full band. Yannis' vocals take the place of Pharrel's... I'm not convinced that if this track had come as an indie track first that it'd be as big as the Mafia's version but needless to say, if the Foals are going to put this in their live sets it will GO OFF. Again, it's not a remix, it's a cover but shhh.

'One' (Netsky Remix) - The Belgian drum 'n' bass wonder kid can semingly do no wrong! Churning out some of my recent fave remixes for the likes of Chew Lips and Plan B, it's going to be all about Netsky soon, everywhere! This is the track that could have me raving harder than the original. Madness.  

'Heard it through the ONE' (Swedish House Mafia VS. Marvin Gaye) (!) -  Honestly I'm not joking - Marvin Gayes 'heard it through the grapevine' vocals have been dropped over 'one' - and it's nowhere near as terrible as you'd first think, in fact quite the opposite. More could've been done with it but it's definitely different, and the ability to spot something as luicrous as this might just make a career for this man in the future (read: Jason Nevins etc.) Hanging out for a high quality MP3 of this bootleg, get in touch if you can find one!

Caspa Remix - Again this is subtle dubstep that's going to need a good subwoofer! A remix from a heavyweight like Caspa is almost certain to get a full release so buying it at a higher quality is going to make you love this even more! Don't expect any big drops and you'll get on with this just fine!  

Sander Van Doorn remix - Trance superstar Van Doorn lives up to expectations here with a massive trance riff! Famed for his Dusk till Doorn compilations, this man gets behind the decks for stints of time that would turn my stomach - but I bet it's all worth it when he sees tens of thousands of ravers get mental to this remix. This heavyweight trance tune is getting an official release so you'll be able to find it in the usual outlets, itunes etc.  

BONUS! 'Leave the World Behind' by Swedish House Mafia & Laiback Luke (Vonka Remix) - Some more dubstep for you all, this time it's the 2009 track 'leave the world behind getting remixed'. Vonka won a monthly remix competition with this track on a blog I follow, the name escapes me now but I'll find it out so a) it's relatively unkonwn and b) it's a very good submission! Tree Boy xoxo
